ShambaSokoni is a Swahili word for “Farm in the Market”
SokoHela believes that food chains should be simple since urban agribusinesses and rural farmers can create a market synergy. We aggregate urban agribusinesses with rural farmers to create an efficient marketplace where both can flourish. Urban agribusinesses have a challenge replenishing their stocks because they have to get their food supplies from sometimes inefficient market sphere. On the other hand, rural farmers find it difficult to sell and access markets for their produce because of infiltration of the agricultural value chain by middlemen who offer poor prices that cannot sustain their agricultural enterprises.
Since 30% of food produced in rural Kenya is wasted, we want to reduce the time lapse in the agricultural food supply value chain by ensuring that farmers sell their produce on time while agribusinesses replenish their stocks on time.
